North Stradbroke Island – written by Ellie Durbidge and Jeanette Covacevich and familiarly known as the Jellyfish Book – has long been the essential island reader. Out of print for some years, It was extensively revised for the 2nd edition published in 2004.

North Stradbroke Island documents the island’s natural and social environments. The book quickly became a classic when it was first published in 1981. The updated edition is a must-have for Stradbroke Island lovers, with facts on an amazing variety of topics including the natural environment and indigenous and European history, along with lists of amphibians, birds, flora, shipwrecks and street names.

ATaste of Stradbroke: a flavour of the island, its cuisine and cooking community: the islanders' cookbook  

Where else will you find a recipe for Rum-Glazed Brown Lake Brownies by Drew Brake, or Frank Lambert’s infamous Frank’s Fury? More than 60 Island flavoured recipies, contributed by island identities. Savour their food and their memories and associations with the island in a cookbook that is also peppered with lovely illustrations of local scenery sketched by local artists.

A Taste of Stradbroke was compiled, edited, designed and published by island resident, Elinor Drake, as a gift to SIMO. The funds from the sale of A Taste of Stradbroke are donated to SIMO, and this is proving a great boost to our coffers.

SIMO has a limited edition of 100 pure cotton bandannas for sale. Jennie Truman's artwork depicts 'Stradbroke – a special island' showing a turtle, eugarie bird, dolphin and wallaby on the compass points and Point Lookout's longitude and latitude. The bandannas are hemmed and measure 56cm square. They were silkscreen-printed on the island.
